“Preppers” has commenced production with MCTV currently submitting for roles. The new six part ABC comedy series, which will air later this year tells the story of a young Aboriginal woman, Charlie, played by Nakkiah Lui. Charlie’s world crumbles around her after experiencing a personal, cataclysmic event. Trying to escape the situation, Charlie finds herself at the centre of a quirky community of doomsday preppers.
The diverse all-star cast includes Ursula Yovich, Chum Ehelepola, Meyne Wyatt, Aaron McGrath, Eryn Jean Norvill, Jack Charles, Grant Denyer, Christine Anu, Brooke Satchwell, Luke Carroll, Kate Miller-Heidke and Miranda Tapsell. The show was co-written by Lui and Gabriel Dowrick.
Co- Producers Liz Watts and Sylvia Warmer commented “We can’t imagine a more blackly comic and pertinent series for our time. Preppers will be smart, relatable and very, very funny. It also might make you shed a tear.”
The show has been produced with assistance from Screen Australia’s First Nations Department, the ABC and Screen NSW. Read more here.
Best of luck to everyone who has been submitted so far!
