Garner Checks out of Australia
‘The Royal Hotel’ is a new thriller from Aussie director, Kitty Green. It stars Julia Garner (‘Ozarks’, ‘The Assistant’), Hugo Weaving and Jessica Henwick (‘The Matrix Resurections’). Green previously directed Garner in ‘The Assistant’ to critical acclaim.
The movie is largely set in South Australia and tells the story of two backpackers Hanna (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) who are best friends. After they run out of money, Liv convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called ‘The Royal Hotel’ in a remote Outback mining town. Soon Hanna and Liv find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.
The majority of filming has been taking place in SA over the last month or so. Julia Garner left Australia late last week, with a ‘Bye’ on Instagram. Produced by See-Saw films (‘Lion’, ‘Animal Kingdon’ and ‘The Power of the Dog’), US rights to the movie have already been awarded to NEON. It seems this film will be another Aussie success story.
