Drover’s Wife set to Premiere at SXSW
We’re very excited! In October 2019 MCTV members were booked on Leah Purcell’s highly anticipated film adaptation of a Henry Lawson short story. The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson is now complete and has been selected for the prestigious South By South West (SXSW) film festival to be held online and in Austin, Texas in March. Holding the international premiere in Texas seems oddly appropriate as the movie has been described as “A searing Australian Snowy Mountains revenge Western“.
The movie is set in the Snowy Mountains in 1893, and centres on the heavily pregnant Molly Johnson and her children, who struggle in isolation to survive the harsh Australian landscape after her husband leaves to go droving sheep in the high country. It is Leah Purcell’s directorial debut and she also wrote and performs in the film, having previously written highly awarded play and book adaptations of the story.
Congratulations to all involved on being selected – we cannot wait to see it!
