The first pics have been released for the new comedy drama Ladies in Black that shot late last year here in Sydney.
“Ladies in Black is set in Sydney in the summer of 1959, against the backdrop of Australia’s cultural awakening, breakdown of class structures, and liberation of women. It tells the coming-of-age story of suburban schoolgirl Lisa, who while waiting for her final high school exam results with dreams of going to the University of Sydney, takes a summer job at a large department store. Here she works side-by-side with a group of saleswomen who open her eyes to a world beyond her sheltered existence, and foster her metamorphosis.”
The director Bruce Beresford has some serious credentials (Breaker Morant, Driving Miss Daisy, Mao’s Last Dancer) and Sony Pictures are behind this one so it’s sure to be visually splendid.
So honoured to have been involved with this production and can’t wait to see it hit our screens.
It sounds absurd, but that’s exactly what happened for one of our MCTV people last week. Our actor was flown to South Australia to play a dead man on a new series called Pine Gap. A new international political thriller centred around the joint US / Australia joint defence facility, Pine Gap, to be shown on iView and Netflix. You might wonder why they couldn’t find anyone to play dead in South Australia. I’m sure there was no shortage, but they needed someone who met very specific measurements and look and it turned out that one of our MCTV people fit the bill.
Just this week we’ve sent a small number of people off for the new series of Doctor Doctor. If season 2 is anything to go by, we sent people on set weekly from April right the way through to September with around 60 MCTV people joining the production. Let’s hope it’s even bigger and better this year.
A bunch of lucky MCTV people took advantage of the beautiful weather at one of Sydney’s beaches last week while filming a new promo for the latest series of Love Island. I’m guessing most people would be happy to hang out at a beach for “work”.
We had lots of excited families here at MCTV last week. An opportunity has popped up for a whole family to be paid to go cruising for 4 days soaking up the sun and having some photographs taken at the same time. A healthy pay packet for Mum and Dad and even the kids is part of the deal along with all accomodation and meals covered too. A bit hard to even call it a job, more like a very entertaining way to earn money. Good luck to everyone who was submitted.
In what could be Sydney’s own Million Dollar Baby story SBS will be shooting The Ropes, a new 4 part dramatic series later this year.
Well done Chris (the art gallery owner) and the 70 other MCTV people (in the lecture theatre and bar scenes) in this smooth new Johnnie Walker commercial. Proud to have been part of this one. As is usually the case, big budget = awesome ad and this is no exception.
Negotiations are underway to film what will be the biggest budget television series ever shot in Australia. With the budget set at $3M per episode, this dwarfs anything previously attempted. A story for international audiences about the notorious Ibrahim family of Sydney. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Endemol Shine are in negotiations for the series right now.
