New NSW Drama for Stan

Stan and Screen NSW have announced ‘Exposure’, a six-episode bold and unapologetic mystery-thriller set in coastal NSW. It follows photographer Jacs Gould who, following the death of her best friend, returns to her hometown to discover the hidden secrets of their relationship and the truth behind her tragedy.

‘Exposure’ is written and created by Lucy Coleman (‘Hot Mess’) and directed by Bonnie Moir (‘Love Me’ series 2) The series is produced through THIRDBORN by award-winning producers Nicole O’Donohue (‘Frayed‘), with Justin Kurzel and Shaun Grant.

‘Exposure’ has been commissioned for production. While no location has been announced, it is expected to shoot in NSW. More to come…

NCIS Still Rolling

Congratulations to everyone who has already worked on NCIS: Sydney. Cameras are still rolling with The Daily Mail reporting on filming at North Bondi. Aussie actors Todd Lasance and Tuuli Narkle were snapped alongside British actors Olivia Swann and Sean Sagar.

NCIS: Sydney is the first instalment of the franchise to be filmed outside the US. In response to this globalisation, the brand has combined all series in the NCIS stable into one instagram account. @NCISverse is now where to find out the latest about all things NCIS.

C*A*U*G*H*T

Irreverent war comedy ‘C*A*U*G*H*T’ tells the story or four Australian soldiers who are sent on a secret mission to a war-torn country.

Mistaken for Americans, they become captured and ‘tortured’, (at least that’s what it looks like on video) producing a hostage video that goes viral. After reaching celebrity status, the soldiers realise that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.

Filmed in Sydney, the six part series stars Ben O’Toole, Lincoln Younes, Alexander England, Matthew Fox, Sean Penn, Bryan Brown and Susan Sarandon.

Congratulations to the 14 MCTV members who also worked on this one. We can’t wait for it to premiere on Stan on September 28.

While the Men are Away….

‘While the Men are Away’ is a new dramedy series set in wartime Australia and filmed in NSW earlier this year. The show focusses on the experiences of two female land recruits sent from the city to help the war effort in a rural town. The women get a crash course in race relations, rural politics, spirituality, sex, and personal growth – oh, and farming.

Francesca (Michela De Rossi), is an Italian immigrant struggling to run her husband’s farm after he enlists (or does he?) “Frankie” is joined by Gwen (Max McKenna) and Esther (Jana Zvedeniuk), somewhat naive city-recruits of the Women’s Land Army to deliver the farm’s annual apple harvest. Helping Frankie is Aboriginal farmhand Kathleen (Phoebe Grainer), and conscientious objector Robert (Matt Testro).

The series is set to premiere on SBS and SBS On Demand at 8.30pm on Wednesday, September 27. The trailer looks great – well done to the 10 MCTV members who worked on this.

TVC Submission Update

Lots of jobs happening for campaigns for so many Aussie and International companies. Recently we have been submitting for the following organisations; Hungry Jacks, Cellarbrations, Choosi, Google, Adobe, TAB, Weber and Toyota Hilux.

Work can be for TVCs, online campaigns, print campaigns or a combination of all three. Big or small advertising jobs pay well and usually have a short shoot and production time so they can fit in easily around other commitments and you get to see the results more quickly than with film and TV.

Alice Hart Record Breaker

Amazon Original series ‘The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’ is now the most successful Australian Original worldwide. The show had the biggest opening weekend viewership globally for any Australian launch.

Prime Video has reported the series has also reached the top five in 78 countries, and top three in 42 countries, since Friday August 4. The series is officially Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes – in mid-August at 80% with an audience score of 95%, as well as receiving an 8.1/10 score on IMDb.

Sarah Christie, senior development executive Amazon Studios, said: “2023 is the biggest year yet for local content for Prime Video, with nine Australian Amazon Originals releasing this year. Following the launch of ‘Class of ’07’ and ‘Deadloch’ earlier this year, the first four episodes of ‘The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’ are out now on Prime Video, with episodes dropping weekly every Friday. ‘The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’ is a sweeping, raw and emotional drama that spans generations, and we are thrilled to that the series is already gripping audiences around the globe as the secrets and mystery of Alice Hart and her family unfold.”

Date for Apes Set

Disney recently released its upcoming theatrical release schedule. ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’, will have a theatrical release in US theatres from May 24, 2024.

Filming on the 4th instalment of the Planet of the Apes franchise wrapped in Sydney in February this year. Top cast include Freya Allan, Dichen Lachman, William H Macy, Kevin Durand, Owen Teague, Peter Macon, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Eka Darville, Lydia Peckham, travis Jeffery and Ras- Samuel Welda’abzgi.

Well done to the 8 MCTV members who worked on this unique movie, some of whom returned to set multiple times. We can’t wait for more news as the release date approaches.

Colin Renewed

Hot on the heels of its Logies triumph, most Outstanding Comedy Series ‘Colin from Accounts’, has been renewed for a second season by Binge.

Since its premiere, this eight-part series has been a record-setter, including the title of most-watched original scripted series ever for the Foxtel Group. It has been a success locally and globally, taking the UK by storm earlier this year.

The series stars creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer as two strangers brought together by a car accident and an injured dog. Both won Outstanding Acting awards while the series won Outstanding Comedy at the recent 2023 Logie awards. If you need to catch up, you can check out Series 1 on Binge.

Brammall and Dyer will return to write, star and Executive Produce, however Dyer recently confirmed writing would not commence until the WGA strike had resolved in the USA.

Logies Return to Sydney

As The Logies, Aussie TV’s annual awards, returned to Sydney for the first time in 37 years, it was fitting that so many of the winners were Sydney productions.

‘Colin from Accounts‘ picked up Most Outstanding Actor and Actress for Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer and Most Outstanding Comedy Program.

Most Outstanding Supporting Actor went to Thomas Weatherall for ‘Heartbreak High’. ‘The Twelve‘ won Most Outstanding Supporting Actress for Brooke Satchwell’s performance and Sam Neill won Most Popular Actor for his work on the series. The show also won Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie.

MCTV is proud to have provided talent to these fantastic shows. 56 people worked on ‘The Twelve’, 64 worked on ‘Colin from Accounts’ and 114 on ‘Heartbreak High’. Well done to everyone involved!

Appleton Race Starts

Filmed in Sydney and the Southern Highlands, ‘The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race’ explores the issue of gender equality from the quirky perspective of an event at a country show.

When Penny Anderson (Claire van der Boom) returns to her childhood home in time for The Appleton Show and ‘world famous potato race’, she is outraged to find out the men’s first prize is $2,000 while the women’s winner gets only $200.

Determined to right this wrong she starts a campaign in the sleepy town of Appleton that divides family and friends.

The movie debuted on Channel 10 on the 26th of July and is available to stream on Paramount+ right now. Congratulations to Alec.S and Amanda.P, who worked on this one, it looks great.
