Hollywood Strike Over – More “Action!” in Oz
After a record 118 day strike the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has brokered a deal and cameras will be rolling again in Hollywood soon.
The actors strike crossed over with similar action taken by the Writers Guild strike which lasted almost 5 months, effectively pausing Hollywood since May this year. Hollywood is still the epicentre of the film and TV industry and the end of the strike and the new conditions agreed (relating to pay, conditions and AI) is great news for the industry worldwide.
While the action took place in America, some impact was felt here with Australian productions stopping in sympathy with writing of new series such as ‘Colin from Accounts‘ Series 2 being put on hold until the action resolved and release of completed productions halted until actors were working again to promote them.
The end of the strike should mean many more opportunities as production gets into full swing again. Hooray!
